The Apocalypse or the Egg

Editor's note: The following column first appeared in News Publishing's Spring 2012 Home and Garden Supplement.

In our partisan culture, half the populace always believes we’re on the brink of the apocalypse.

I’m an Independent, which means I’m always convinced everything is on the verge of collapse. As a result, I’m cultivating a lifestyle that will make the inevitable apocalypse manageable. I don’t just want to survive the End Times – I want to enjoy them.

A Passionate Life Cut Short

I love football, I play football, I live football. Life is too short and too valuable to take seriously or take for granted.

I like to treat every moment as a reward, not a gift, because in order to get anything in life you have to earn it through hard work and discipline, that makes life all the sweeter. Work hard so you can play harder.

Fred Statz,

as quoted in the program for his Nov. 17 funeral at St. Martin’s Catholic Church

Fred Statz’s parents and siblings say his passion for football was contagious, and they all caught the bug.

Middleton Police Note Increase in Burglaries

Public Information Officer Jill Tutaj said last week that, for the past couple months, the Middleton Police Department has seen an increase in daytime residential burglaries throughout the city.

According to the Investigative Services Bureau, a number of homes were entered and valuable items were taken and some of these burglaries could have been easily prevented. Reports indicate that in some of these cases the victims left their residence unsecured for a number of hours allowing the perpetrator to enter the residence with ease to remove valuable items.
