Anthology of Anger

Today, I read an anthology of anger in the form of Yelp reviews. A single person had rated a dozen businesses, and she had never given out anything higher than a single star, which is the lowest possible score. In addition to her ratings, she offered delightful accounts of her various experiences. She was like the keynote speaker at an outrage symposium.

“I needed a right brake light replaced and had the misfortune to stop at [this mechanic]. Whilte the price of the light bulb was reasonable at $4.57, they then had the audacity to charge me $5.40 for two minutes of their precious time to replace it.  Oh, well, at least I know where NOT to go in the future. ;-)”

You might notice a few typos in these reviews, but I believe she is not a fan of my editing, so I’ll leave them as they are here.

Black & White Cat

I normally stay out of the fray of Nextdoor. I find it to be a good source of misinformation, innuendo, rumor and vitriol, for which I can normally not make the time. I had signed up for it at the urging of my neighbor, whom I met while walking the dog.

Every time I check my personal email there are a list of posts offering free vegetables, missing pets, events, strange happenings in the neighborhood, and occasionally someone spewing venom about some minor infraction imposed on them by another. I had never made a post or even commented on one because I never open the email alerts, but we had been having a visitor at our house–a black and white cat with a little diamond shape on his nose.

MCPASD Alumni Network to Host a Community Town Hall Tonight

MIDDLETON–The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District (MCPASD) Network formally invites students, staff, parents and community members to attend a virtual community town hall addressing racial injustice in MCPASD schools on Aug. 3, at 7 p.m.

For weeks, community members have called for the school district to address systemic racism and racial disparities within all levels of education, through a petition with over 720 signatures. Not only has the district actively rejected such efforts, but they have utilized the virtual nature of their school board meetings to repeatedly stifle public comment and disenfranchise the voices of BlPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students, staff, and community members, the group contends. Stephen Kolison, an alumni from Middleton High School’s Class of 2013, is frustrated with the district’s approach.
