It was a busy — and highly successful — week for Middleton’s boys swimming and diving team.

The Cardinals took second place at the Brookfield East Invite last Tuesday. Middleton then defeated Madison La Follette and Janesville Parker in a triangular last Friday, and finished second at the Janesville Parker Relays last Saturday.

Madison Memorial won the Brookfield East Invite with 593 points. Middleton was a distant second at 391.5, but the Cardinals finished ahead of traditional state powers Brookfield (299.5) and Hartland Arrowhead (284).

“We ended up beating Arrowhead and they took second at state last year,” Cardinals coach Luke Lengfeld said.

Middleton had several terrific performances on the day.

The Cardinals quartet of junior Zack Parkin, sophomore Matthew Kim, senior Jackson Uselman and senior Nick Lund finished second in the 200 yard medley relay (1:41.81). Middleton’s 200 yard freestyle relay team of senior Jack McGovern, junior Cooper Green, junior James Mai and junior Lars Haskins was also second (1:32.56). And the Cardinals’ 400 yard free relay team of Uselman, McGovern, Lund and Parkin was second (3:17.04).

Uselman was first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:48.43) and McGovern was fourth (1:50.83). Uselman also won the 500 yard freestyle (4:56.45).

Parkin was third in the 100 yard freestyle (48.77), while teammates Lund (50.44) and Haskins (52.77) were fifth and eighth, respectively.

Lex Peterson was fourth in the 100 yard fly (56.19) and Jacob Aegerter was eighth (58.42). Parkin was fourth in the 100 yard backstroke (55.64), while Green was seventh (1:00.11).

McGovern was fifth in the 50 yard freestyle (22.78), while Lund was eighth (23.05). Matthew Kim was also sixth in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:05.38).

Middleton followed that with a convincing win at the Janesville Parker Triple Dual. There, XXX

“It gave the guys another opportunity to race,” Lengfeld said. “Some guys were able to swim different races then they usually do.”

The Cardinals finished their week with an impressive second place finish at the Parker Relays.

Madison West won the invite with 296 points, while the Cardinals were second at 282.

“We had to go to Parker twice in two days,” Lengfeld said. “The meet went well. Guys swam well even though they swam two other meets that week. We also missed a few swimmers from the Parker Relays, which would have helped us compete against West.”

• On deck: After competing in five meets in nine days, Middleton has a relatively quiet week. The Cardinals host Madison West Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

“It’s going to be a great meet and I expect to see so more best times,” Lengfeld said.
