Middleton girls swimming and diving coach Lauren Cabalka has been selected as the 2017-‘18 Central Coach of the Year by the National Federation High School Coaches Association.

The Central Coach of the Year is given to the top coach from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Cabalka led Middleton to a third straight WIAA Division 1 state title in November. The Cardinals became just the ninth program in state history to win three consecutive state titles.

Middleton rolled to the team title in 2018, defeating runner-up Cedarburg, 249.50-188.0.

The Cardinals posted 313.50 points in 2017, well ahead of runner-up Cedarburg (242.0).

And Middleton’s 265.0 points in 2016 gave it a comfortable margin over runner-up Verona-Mount Horeb (215.50).
