**UPDATE** Colleen Soper Dies at Hospital

MADISON–Colleen Soper, 87, who was found in a vehicle with her deceased husband, Donald, 87, after the two disappeared on Thanksgiving, has died at a local hospital. 

She was taken to Meriter Hospital after the couple’s car was found on a remote trail in the Town of Vermont on Saturday morning. Donald Soper was found dead at the scene, and Colleen in critical condition.

The Sopers went missing after attending a family gathering on Thursday afternoon. A Silver Alert was issued when the couple failed to make it to their destination. 

Cause of death has not been released, and autopsies are being performed. 

 

**UPDATE** Missing Dane County Couple Found

TOWN OF VERMONT–On Thanksgiving Day, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office took the report of a missing elderly couple.

Donald E. Soper and his wife Colleen A. Soper left a family gathering in the Town of Black Earth at approximately 3 p.m. in a black 2008 Dodge Caliber. Family members became concerned when the couple did not arrive at their destination.

Multiple area Fire Departments and law enforcement agencies conducted searches of several areas in the western part of Dane County as well as adjacent areas throughout the evening hours of Thanksgiving Day without locating the missing couple. The search continue throughout the day on Nov. 29 with no sign of the Sopers or their vehicle.

At approximately 10:20 a.m. on Nov. 30 their vehicle was located on a remote trail in the Town of Vermont.  The vehicle appeared to be stuck and both Donald and Colleen were with the vehicle. Tragically, Donald was determined to be deceased at the scene and Colleen was transported to Meriter Hospital in critical condition.  

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, however the circumstances do not appear to be suspicious.

ORIGINAL STORY

BLACK EARTH–A Silver Alert was issued for Colleen and Donald Soper, both 87, on Nov. 28 after they left a family Thanksgiving gathering.

The Sopers were last seen at 2:50 p.m. in Black Earth after leaving a family member’s home. They have not been heard from since.

Donald had planned to go for a drive with Colleen before taking her back to a Cross Plains assisted living facility, then driving home to Westport.

The couple was driving in a 2008 Dodge Caliber with Wisconsin license plate 327FXX. The GPS tracking device in the vehicle is does not seem to be working.

Donald is in need of insulin to regulate diabetes and Colleen has dementia. Donald has previously become confused when his blood sugar drops.

Colleen was last seen wearing a red leather jacket and Donald was wearing a black leather jacket. Both wear glasses and both have short gray hair.
