Their regular season is now in the rearview mirror.

The postseason awaits, and both Middleton track and field teams are excited about what lies ahead.

Middleton’s girls finished second at the six-team Paul Frank Invite hosted by Sun Prairie last Friday. Sun Prairie won the event with 146 points, while Middleton was a close second at 140.

Sun Prairie also won the boys meet with 156 points, while Verona (141) and Middleton (135.5) rounded out the top three.

“Without a conference meet to cap the end of season before the tournament schedule, the last two invites have been great for the kids,” said Middleton girls coach Jay Schweitzer said. “I think our finishes in both meets show the girls would be very competitive in a conference meet and I would like their chances. I'm very proud of the team’s development and performances.”

On the girls’ side, Kobi Davis won the shot put and Maddilyn Vander Sanden was third. Davis also won the discus.

“Kobi Davis has had an amazing week,” Schweitzer said. “After winning shot put at (Arrowhead) last Saturday, she doubled — winning both shot and discus Friday at Sun Prairie. She has been having a standout year. She hasn't lost in shot put all year and she hasn't had her best throw yet.”

Natalie Ahn was second in the 1,600-meter run and Kiara Malloy-Salgado was second in the 300-meter hurdles. Kenzie Nickels was second in the 200-meter dash.

Jordan Dettman was third in the high jump and Elle Seager was third in the triple jump.

Middleton’s 1,600- and 3,200-meter relay teams both finished second, while its 400- and 800-meter relay team were both third.

“Another great meet for the girls,” Schweitzer said. “A very close finish saw the team get second place. The team is very well rounded, having great performances in all phases of the meet.”

Middleton was without distance standout Lauren Pansegrau, who was competing at the HOKA Festival of Miles at St. Louis University.

There, Pansegrau finished second out of 14 runners in the mile with a time of 4:54.17, just .01 seconds behind winner Mya Trober of Missouri.

“Lauren ran a very smart race, going out slightly more conservative than previous races,” Middleton cross country coach Alexa Richardson said. “Lauren ran a time of 4:54 in a full mile, which converts approximately to 4:52 in the 1600m.”

On the boys’ side, Jackson Meyer won the triple jump and the high jump. Jacob Folsom was also third in the high jump.

Quinn Calvin won the 200-meter dash and Max Foland was third. Calvin also won the long jump, while Ethan Mladucky won the 1,600-meter run

Thor Blake was second in the 800-meter run and Griffin Ward was second in the 3,200-meter run.

Middleton’s 400-meter relay team was also third.

• On deck: Middleton was at Madison West Tuesday, then hosts a WIAA Division 1 regional Monday. The Cardinals then are at the Madison Memorial Sectional.
