MIDDLETON–Allen Jeffrey “Jeff” Martin, 78 of Middleton, passed away on Dec. 13, 2021. He was born in Elsie, MI., the son of Robert and Gathal (Bell) Martin.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Jan (Goscinski, married in 1965); sons, Joel (Mary) and Jonathan (Erika) Martin; grandchildren, McKenna and Jack Martin; and sister, Sharon Olney. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, father-in-law, and mother-in-law.

Jeff spent his life working in and for our forests, first with the US Forest Service as a research forester and then as a forestry professor/extension for UW-Madison. Following his retirement, he began second career as a photographer, and as volunteer with the Middleton Historical Society and Rowley House Museum. He was an exacting woodworker, avid student of American history, and loved being outdoors, whether he was gardening, traveling or exploring the Driftless in pursuit of the perfect hatch. His ideas, images, and involvement leave a lasting legacy in the lives of many.

A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on May 22, 2022, at Lakeview Park, in Middleton. A complete obituary and additional service details will be published at a later date. Online condolences may be made at gundersonfh.com.
