CROSS PLAINS–Gary A. Trappe, 79, died on Jan. 26, 2022, at Homestead Living in Waunakee, after many years battling Alzheimer’s. He was born in Seelyburg., on Sept. 7, 1942. He was the sixth child of Benjamin and Zelma (Risen) Trappe. Gary graduated from West Lima High School in 1960. He married Karen Rognholt on April 4, 1964, at Five Points Lutheran Church in Richland County. They celebrated 52 years of marriage before Karen’s death in 2016.

Gary worked in Janesville, before landing in Madison to work at American Scientific Laboratories (ASL). After ASL closed their Madison location, Gary worked at Valley Bank, CBI, Kennedy-Hahn and finally as a park ranger for Dane County Parks.

Gary was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting on the farm, fishing, bird watching and spending time on his two-acre parcel on Enchanted Valley Road. He would call his land “his park” with the best water in Wisconsin. Gary also had a love of investing in the stock market. He would get on his computer every day at 4 p.m. central time to check the stock market after the closing bell. He would take meticulous notes and make suggestions to both his children. Gary was also a family man. He enjoyed any time he could spend with those important people in his life.

Gary is survived by his son, Daniel (Mary) Trappe; daughter, Tracie Rogers; sister, Pamela (Pete) Frase; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lyle and Mary Rognholt, Norris and Jean Roghnolt, Evelyn and George Faulkner, Joyce Rognholt and Janice Trappe; grandchildren, Ella Rogers, Jenna Rogers and Chase Rogers; three step-grandchildren, Courtney (Stephen Pauls), Kara Ripp, and Roman (Caitlyn) Ripp; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; son-in-law, Bobby Rogers; sisters, Rita (Verlin) Rittenhouse and Marveline Davis; brothers, Richard (Geneva) Trappe, Larry (Marge) Trappe, Rodney Trappe and Brian Trappe; and brother-in-law, Carl Rognholt.

Services were held at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, 2427 Church St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Jan. 31, 2022, with the Rev. Maggie Anderson presiding. A luncheon followed. Burial was held at Five Points Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was held at the church from 4-7 p.m. on, Jan. 30, 2022, and again from 10 a.m. until the start of the service on Monday.

We are thankful for the wonderful care Gary received at Homestead Living and the care from Agrace HospiceCare throughout the last year and a half. You will be missed, Dad, Grandpa, Trapper, Gar, Gar Bear, and Uncle Gary. Love you forever.
