Teens Arrested For Throwing Cans

From a Middleton Police Department Press Release:

On Saturday at approximately 11:39 p.m., a resident in the 3600 block of John Muir Drive reported damage to his residence when it was struck by full soda cans.  A witness observed the suspects running to a vehicle and the victim provided a direction of travel.  Nearby officers were able to locate and stop the vehicle containing four teens.

Fatal Crash In Town Of Westport

From a Dane County Sheriff's Office press release:

At 5:02 p.m. Wednesday, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Waunakee Fire and EMS, and UW Med Flight responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 113, south of State Highway 19, in the Town of Westport.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by a 64-year-old woman from Madison, was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 19 and Highway 113 and was preparing to head southbound on Highway 113.  She then pulled out in front of a 1996 Saturn Station Wagon, driven by a 59-year-old male from Spring Green, who was heading northbound on Highway 113 and collided with the Cavalier. 

The driver of the Chevrolet Cavalier was wearing her seatbelt and had to be extricated from the vehicle.  She was transported by UW Med Flight to UW Hospital with unknown injuries.

Clean And Green Saturday

Clean & Green Middleton, the semi-annual re-use and recycling event sponsored by the City of Middleton Sustainability Committee, will be held again this Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  

It will be at Nursery Drive and Deming Way in the Airport Road Business Park. 

Area residents are encouraged to drop off clothing, household goods, eyeglasses, cell phones and durable medical equipment. They are also urged to bring new or gently used construction materials, cabinets, tools, hardware, electrical, plumbing, and general building supplies that can be reused, all to benefit local charities including St. Vincent de Paul and Habitat ReStore. 

In addition, environmentally friendly recycling will be offered for CFL light bulbs, batteries, scrap metal, printer cartridges, and most electronics at no charge.

Tornado Drill Postponed Due To Threat Of Real Severe Weather

The State of Wisconsin Tornado Drill scheduled for Thursday, April 18 has been POSTPONED due to the threat of real severe weather and possible tornadoes in Southeast Wisconsin today.

The tornado drill has been rescheduled for Friday, April 19 with a statewide tornado watch issued at 1:00 p.m. and a statewide tornado warning issued at 1:45 p.m.

Armed Robbers Invade Home, Victims Arrested For Unrelated Charges

Middleton Police were called to an armed robbery home invasion at 1:30 this morning in the 6400 block of Century Avenue.

According to Sgt. Jeremy Geiszler, the investigation revealed that four unknown subjects forced entry into the residence and battered one of the two occupants. 

The suspects were described as males wearing masks. They were allegedly armed with handguns, and one had a baseball bat.  The suspects left the residence in an unknown direction with several items. 

Additional investigation led to the arrest of one of the occupants, Latif Williams, 31, for a parole violation.  The other occupant, Martha Salazar, 21, was arrested for Obstructing an Officer.

Dog Park Cleanup Date Set

The annual Dane County dog parks cleanup event is approximately one month away. Volunteers are asked to mark their calendars for March 30 and join others anytime from 8 a.m. until noon. Four legged friends are welcome.

This annual event always takes place on the last Saturday of March.

Dane County Parks, City of Madison Park, City of Sun Prairie Parks and City of Middleton Parks are all participating at their respective Dog Exercise Areas.

Volunteers will assist with picking up litter and scooping up dog waste that has been hidden under the snow.

Each Dog Exercise Area will have a volunteer leader and will be provided bags and gloves for our volunteers. Individuals and groups are all welcome to join.

Middleton Police Respond to Fatal Crash

 

A Mt. Horeb man was killed this morning in a three-vehicle crash on Highway 14 near Stagecoach Road in the town of Cross Plains, according to a statement issued by the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 7:10 a.m., Dane County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Middleton Police and Cross Plains Fire and Police, responded to the scene.  A VW Jetta operated by Caitlyn R. O’Brien, age 19 of Cross Plains, was traveling eastbound on Highway 14 when she rear-ended a 1997 Ford Explorer.  The Ford Explorer was then pushed into the westbound lane, where he was struck by a semi.  The-44 year-old man driving the Ford Explorer was killed in the crash.

The semi driver, James R. David, age 58 of Wind Lake, WI, was not injured.  The at-fault driver, Caitlyn O’Brien, was transported to UW Hospital with minor injuries.

Police Warn of 'Grandparent Scam'

From the Middleton Police Department:

Several City of Middleton residents have reported receiving phone calls from grandchildren claiming to be stranded outside of the United States this week.  The callers are saying they need money wired to them immediately and, while one victim got suspicious and hung up and called her grandson to verify that he was home and was fine, at least one victim that we know of sent $1,000 before realizing it was a scam.

If you receive a call like this, always consider verifying the whereabouts of the actual person that the caller is claiming to be and consider the following information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to protect yourself from being a victim:

Women Voters Offer Candidates' Answers

The League of Women Voters of Dane County Candidates’ Answers for the February 19 primary are available on their website www.lwvdanecounty.org.   Candidates’ Answers is an independent and nonpartisan voters’ guide which features responses by the candidates themselves.  The Dane County League sends questionnaires to all candidates. Answers are printed exactly as received without editing by the League.  The only statewide primary contest is for Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice. Pat Roggensack, incumbent,  Ed Fallone, and Vince Megna are the candidates.  Local alders, school board members, and judicial races will be on the April ballot.

On January 28, the subject in this bank surveillance picture cashed several checks that were reported stolen from area vehicles, according to Sgt. Steve Britt.
