Dean Zentner

Satellite Beach, Florida-Dean Zentner, 70, passed away on March 27, 2013, after a long illness. 

Dean earned a BS Degree in Applied Math & Engineering Physics, and a Masters Degree in Computer Science, at the University of Wisconsin.  He worked on the Apollo Space Program and many other Defense projects.  He was a member of Mensa. 

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sally; his son David; daughter Theresa; granddaughter Skylar, and 4 brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, on April 13, 2013, at 11 a.m.

Douglas William Brown

Douglas William Brown, 84, Madison, Wisconsin died on March 21, 2013 at St. Mary’s Care Center.

He was born to the late Elmer and Stella (Hayden) Brown on April 30, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI.   Doug graduated from Division High School in Milwaukee and received a BA in Engineering from the University of Madison.   He married Betty Ann Schlough from Mazomanie, on July 30, 1955 and they lived together in Middleton, Wisconsin where together they raised 11 children.

Doug served in the United States Army from 1946 until 1948.  Doug worked as a construction estimator until his retirement working with Anthony Grignano Construction and Orville E. Madsen Construction.

Nick Miller

 

Nick Miller (Nicholas Joseph Miller), 102, passed away peacefully at Wynscape Rehabilitation Center (Wheaton, IL) on March 5. Nick, born February 3, 1911 in Waunakee, WI was the son of Nicholas and Margaret Miller (Brausen). Nick graduated Waunakee High School and soon began working in the Civilian Conservation Corps part of FDRʼs program to get the country moving again. The CCC gave birth to Conservation Departments across the United States. As a 40+ year employee of the Wisconsin Conservation Department, now Department of Natural Resources, Nick wore many hats - game warden, manager of fish crews seining rough fish and planting game fish in the stateʼs streams and lakes, and finally Southern Area Fish Manager at Nevin Hatchery.

Nickʼs wife of 74 years, Sue (Voelcker) preceded him in death December 19, 2011.

Gladys Schoenberger

Gladys Schoenberger, age 93 of Middleton, passed away on Saturday March 23, 2012 at the UW Hospital in Madison. She was born April 21, 1919 in Kenosha, the daughter of James and Maude (Priddis) Schmelling.  

Gladys married Theodore Schoenberger on May 15, 1942 in Gresham.  After graduating from the Bellin School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse, she worked for many years at the Shawano and Tigerton Hospitals.  Following her husband’s death she moved to the Middleton area to be closer to her family.

MIDDLETON-John J. “Jack” Hilgers, age 84, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 20, 2013.  He was born on August 3, 1928, in Madison, the son of Werner and Helen (Spence) Hilgers.

Gerald R. Meicher

MAZOMANIE – Gerald R. Meicher, age 77 of Mazomanie, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at Sterling House in Middleton, surrounded by his family.


He was born July 6, 1935 in Pine Bluff to Leo and Mary (Hauser) Meicher.


He was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Shaub on Sept. 2, 1955. Sharon preceded him in death on May 17, 2012.

He loved the outdoors, polka dancing, playing euchre, and going up north to Minocqua, with family and friends.


He was a former member of Hiawatha Gun Club in Waunakee, the Bentshaft Bow Hunters, the Oakridge Rifle Clubs in Verona and was currently a member of the River Sportsman Club in Mazomanie.

Richard “Dick” R. Karn

CROSS PLAINS-Richard “Dick” R. Karn, age 76, of Cross Plains, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Meriter Hospital after an extended illness.  Born in Madison on June 22, 1936, the son of Leslie and Bertha (Hosley) Karn, he spent 18 years on the home farm in Verona and was a 1954 graduate of Verona High School.

Elaine Walsh Stricker

MONROE - Elaine Walsh Stricker, 94, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2012.  She was born December 23, 1918 in Middleton, WI, the daughter of John F. and Anastasia Kennedy Walsh.  

The family moved to Madison where she lived and attended school.  She was a graduate of Edgewood.  Her marriage to J. Daniel (Don) Stricker took place April 15, 1942 at St. Raphael's Cathedral, Madison.  She and her husband resided in Madison until 1959 at which time they moved to Janesville.  In 1963 they relocated to Monroe where she was employed by St. Clare Hospital.  She served as the Assistant Medical Record Administrator until her retirement in 1983.  She was a member of St. Victor Catholic Parish.  Elaine was a steadfast UW Badger and Green Bay Packer fan.

LaVerne Kasten, age 93, a longtime resident of Middleton, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Oakwood Village University Woods (West).  LaVerne, the daughter of Arthur and Adela (Haupt) Kemp was born in Mequon on November 28, 1919.

Sylvester C. Jacob

Sylvester C. Jacob, age 72 of Middleton, formerly of Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Oak Park Place in Middleton from Alzheimer’s.  He was born on April 26, 1940 in Medina son of the late James and Eunice (Fisch) Jacob.

Sylvester worked at Hartwig’s Poultry Farms as a Foreman for many years until its closing.  He then went to work for Wis-Cold Packaging in Milwaukee until he retired in 2004.  He served in the United States Army, and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Jefferson.
