Down the stretch they come.
And Middleton’s girls softball team could be in the perfect position to rally at the finish line.
The Cardinals won both of their games last week, rolling past Madison La Follette, 14-5, in Thursday and downing Madison East, 7-0, last Friday. Middleton improved to 14-4 overall and 10-2 in the Big Eight Conference.
With just more than a week left in the regular season, the Cardinals are now in a three-way battle with Verona and Janesville Craig for the league title. The Wildcats are also 10-2, while the Cougars are 9-2.
Making things more fun is the fact Janesville Craig visits Middleton for a doubleheader Friday beginning at 5 p.m.
“We need to keep focused for each game,” Middleton manager Cherie Hellenbrand said. “The girls are working hard in practice. We are determined to get better every day.”
The Cardinals have certainly gotten better in recent weeks and have now won eight of their last nine games.
