City Gets $100K MERL Payment

The Middleton Area Development Corporation presented a check for $100,000 to the Middleton Common Council on July 16 — representing the final payment in a $600,000 COVID-19 Middleton Economic Relief Loan program designed to help Middleton small businesses.

In the wake of the 2020 Presidential Election where Donald Trump lost the State of Wisconsin by 20,000 votes a lawsuit was filed primarily against the Wisconsin Elections Commission challenging the guidance at that point allowing ballot drop boxes.

Rising Costs Challenge the Middleton Police Department: The Community Responds

 Over the past decade, the operational and capital expenditures for smaller municipal police departments have risen significantly. The Middleton Police Department is among those struggling with these increasing expenses. Simply having patrol cars on the streets is no longer enough, as calls for service continue to increase and calls handled by the police department have become more complex.

Middleton-Cross Plains School Board Approves Preliminary $148M Budget for 2024-2025

The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District board of education approved a preliminary budget of $148,370,086 for the 2024-2025 school year with over 68% attributed to general operations including salary and benefits, services, supplies, equipment and miscellaneous. Special education accounts for 14.5% of expenditures, and debt service 8%.

Cross Plains heats up at perfect time

CROSS PLAINS — With two weeks left in the regular season, the Cross Plains Businessmen were wondering if they would even qualify for the Northern Section playoffs, let alone host a home game.

But a lot can change in two weeks.

The Businessmen received a strong pitching performance from right-hander Logan Schultz, pounded out 14 hits and rolled past Black Earth, 7-1, in a Home Talent League Northern Section regular season finale on Sunday.

Cross Plains also defeated Waunakee, 6-3, last Saturday and jumped up to the fourth seed in the section. The Businessmen (8-4) will host Reedsburg (8-4) in the opening round of the Northern Section playoffs on Sunday at 1 p.m. Cross Plains won the tiebreaker for fourth place and the right to host a first-round playoff game after defeating Reedsburg, 10-5, on May 17.
