A woman claiming she was struck by a Pleasant View Golf Course patron’s ball and a homeowner whose garage was struck by a City of Middleton vehicle both filed claims — and both were rejected by the Middleton Common Council as part of its Aug. 5 agenda.

The Middleton Senior Legion (19U) baseball team won the Wisconsin American Legion Baseball State Tournament recently. The Cardinals defeated DePere, 14-2, in the championship game on Aug. 2.

Middleton opened with a 5-4 win over Manitowoc in nine innings on July 29, then edged Appleton, 4-3, on July 30.

DePere defeated Middleton, 8-7, on July 31 in this double elimination tournament, but the Cardinals wouldn’t lose again.

Middleton rolled past Manitowoc, 13-0, on Aug. 1 in a game that eliminated the Ships. The Cardinals then rolled past Appleton, 11-1, on Aug. 2 and elimiated the Doubledays.

That set up an all-or-nothing game with DePere for the state title, and the Cardinals cruised past the Redbirds.

Middleton’s Chase Rogers was named the tournament MVP, while Charlie Tompach, Brody Kalscheur, August Faessler, Bennett O’Connor and Rogers were selected to the all-tournament team.

ASHTON — The hit song ‘Dream On’ by Aerosmith was a fitting anthem for Sunday’s Home Talent League Northern Section semifinal between host Ashton and visiting Cross Plains.

With the corn fields standing tall surrounding the outfield fence, the HTL’s own ‘Field of Dreams’ attracted a capacity crowd that was abuzz with excitement about who would survive another day.

It didn’t take long, though, for the hometown A’s to secure a berth in the HTL Northern Section championship game.

No. 2 seeded Ashton exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruised to 13-1 victory over No. 4 seeded Cross Plains in a game that was called after seven innings due to the mercy rule.
