ROXBURY–Ellen Louise (Mack) Schmitt, 67, of Roxbury, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2021, at Meriter Hospital in Madison after battling lymphoma and pneumonia.

Ellen was born on May 3, 1954, in Baraboo, to Herman J. and Blanche M. (Breunig) Mack. After attending Sauk Prairie High School, she married the love of her life Dane Township native DuWayne P. Schmitt at St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Roxbury on Sept. 30, 1978, just 11 days after the sad passing of her father. At the time, she was employed at Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Mutual and Credit Union Member Insurance Services (CUMIS) Insurance Co., in Madison.

Together, the couple embraced life with their five boys: Jeffrey, Brian, David, Dean, and Christopher. To her joy, the family expanded with the happy additions of Meghann, wife of David, and Melissa, wife of Christopher. Ellen enjoyed going up north with her siblings, mowing, gardening, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also had daycare children who often referred to her as "Ida." Additionally, she was a member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women.

She is survived by her sons, Brian, David (Meghann), and Christopher (Melissa); special grandchildren, Abigail (age 6), Madeline (3), and Peter (5 months); her brothers and sisters, Glenn (Dorothy) Mack, Gloria (Russ) Clemens, Eileen Ripp, Kay (Jim) Kalscheur, Herman (Elaine) Mack, and Steve (Cindy) Mack; a sister-in-law, Carol Mack; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Ellen was preceded in death by her devoted husband, DuWayne (Oct. 13, 2015); her beloved parents, Herman (Sept. 19, 1978) and Blanche Mack (May 24, 1987); sons, Jeffrey and Dean; granddaughter, Hannah; and siblings, Russell Paul, Russell Herman, Milton, Maxine, Clifford, and Howard; and other relatives.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday morning, July 6, 2021, at St. Norbert Catholic Church in Roxbury, with Father James Kotch officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery that day. Hooverson Funeral Home in Sauk City assisted the family.

Ellen's family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the supportive staff at Meriter Hospital and to Dr. Saurabh Rajguru for his care for Ellen.
