CROSS PLAINS–Amanda Sue Butler, 24, of Cross Plains, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2022. She had been diagnosed with borderline personality and had spent years successfully fighting the ultimately overwhelmingly mental, emotional, and physical challenges that associate with this condition.

Amanda was born on Sept. 10, 1997 to Kenneth L. and Peggy Butler. In 2016 she graduated from Middleton High School where she was a member of the girls’ volleyball team. She was a beloved member of District 1 Emergency Medical Services in Cross Plains, and was certified as a CPR instructor, a state and national EMT, ACLS, PALS, CNA, and ER technician. She had a bachelor’s degree in arts and was currently a COVID-19 pandemic vaccinator.

Her personal dedication to be of service to humanity was demonstrated in her unsuccessful, yet hard road to acquire a degree in nursing and with aspirations to be a nurse practitioner. Her greatest wish was to be of service to others, especially those with mental health issues. To honor Amanda's legacy, we request that instead of flowers you consider donation to the suicide prevention organization of your choice.

Amanda is survived by her parents, Ken and Peggy Butler; her brother, Josh; her grandmothers, Kay Kavanaugh (Bob), and Shirley (Schoephoerster) Butler; aunts, Tammy Burcar (John) and Mary Butler; uncle, Jim Butler; and her very special therapy dog, Denali, who will be staying with her family. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Paul Burcar and August L. Butler.

A celebration of her life was honored at the Cross Plains Fire Department, 1501 Bourbon Rd., Cross Plains, from 12-4 p.m. on June 11, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations in Amanda's name be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), an organization that is dedicated to helping those with mental health issues: http://www.namidanecounty.org.

A special thank you to her friends who continued to support and help Amanda over the years. She was a shining light to all those she came across. We ask that you remember her that way. Gunderson Funeral Home, 2421 Church St. in Cross Plains, assisted the family. Online condolences may be made at gundersonfh.com.
