MOUNT HOREB–Doris Ann Hall, 79, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Sept. 20, 2022. She was born on March 19, 1943, in Sewickley, PA, the daughter of George Brothers and Ruth (Peoples) Brothers. She married the late Carl Haywood Hall Sr. on Sept. 26, 1973, in Alexandria, VA.
Doris graduated from Quaker Valley High School in Leetsdale, PA, received a full scholarship to Fisk University in 1961 and graduated with honors in 1965. Doris was a gifted musician having studied Music Education at Fisk University and could play beautifully by ear and read music. She loved playing the piano and organ and was often requested to play at various occasions such as church, weddings and even funerals as well as individuals. Two of her most prideful moments were playing for The Fisk University Jubilee Singers while attending there and the Evangelist Katherine Kuhlman.
Doris worked in personnel and human resources for several prominent companies in Nashville, Chicago, Detroit, San Francisco and many more. She was also a Human Rights Investigator for Fairfax County, VA. She finally retired from the federal government in 1994.
Doris is survived by her sisters, Josephine Lynne Harris and Sarah “Frankie” Higginbotham; daughters, Kelly Janine Joyner and Candace Marie (David) Montag; two stepsons, Carl Haywood Hall Jr. (Shawn) and Aaron Thomas Hall; and 10 grandchildren. She is also survived by a loving nephew, Lawrence George Harris (Pia); niece, Lisa Yvette Coleman (Eugene); and a host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ruth; and husband, Minister Carl H. Hall Sr.
A funeral service was held at Gunderson West Funeral and Cremation Care, 7435 University Ave., Middleton at 12 p.m. on Oct. 2, 2022. A visitation was held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Sunday.
