MADISON/CROSS PLAINS-Emily Mari Oyan, 43, of Cross Plains, passed away unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm on Oct. 12, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison. She was able to give the gift of life by being an organ donor.
Emily, known as "Em", was born in Madison on Aug. 29, 1979, the daughter of Mark and Diann (Rostermundt) Oyan. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1998 and from UW-Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin in 2003. Em was employed in patient services for Girlie's Manor nursing home in Cross Plains. She worked very hard over the years to provide a good life for her son, Jack.
She simply loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved time spent with her aunts, uncles, and cousins at their Christmas gathering in Milwaukee and at her grandparents' lake home. She was very compassionate, always wanting to help others, whether they were elderly or individuals with disabilities, which gave her self-fulfillment. Em had a love for music and shared this passion with her son. She was also an avid UW-Madison Badgers basketball fan. Em loved her loyal Labrador Retriever dogs, Angel, Maggie, and Foxy.
Em is survived by her 13-year-young son, Jackson Letcher; her significant other, Matt Smith; her parents, Mark and Diann Oyan; an older brother, Nicholas Oyan; her maternal grandmother, Marge Rostermundt, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Robert Rostermundt; her paternal grandparents, Donald Oyan and Arloween (Licht) Oyan; and an aunt, Jodi Onder.
A celebration of Em's life is being planned for a later date. Please follow her CaringBridge website page for updates.
Em's family wishes to thank the wonderful St. Mary's Hospital intensive care unit doctors and nurses for taking such good care of her. Gunderson Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Dr., in Monona, assisted the family.
