City to Update Comprehensive Plan After Joint Meeting with Towns

MIDDLETON–The Middleton Airport Commission last week delayed recommending updated language to the city’s Comprehensive Plan until the Common Council can meet with the Town of Middleton and Town of Springfield on Middleton Municipal Airport-Morey Field issues.

As part of the city’s required 10-year update to the Comprehensive Plan, City Planner & Zoning Administrator Mark Opitz presented language regarding the airport which was criticized for lessening concern for the airport’s impact on its neighbors.

The 2006 Comprehensive Plan recognizes the increased air traffic and the city’s need to monitor the airport so it operates “as safely and efficiently as possible while at the same time minimizing potentially negative impacts on nearby properties.”

The proposed language presented to the Commission on Aug. 6 eliminates minimizing potentially negative impacts and promotes the airport’s role in economic development.

“Our detectives continued to do a bunch of work and looked at videos from the area, Middleton Police Captain Jeremy Geiszler said. “Eventually  the juvenile admitted there was no abduction. We have to take it seriously though.”

Town Approves Certified Survey Map After Threat of Litigation

TOWN OF MIDDLETON–After threat of litigation, the Town of Middleton Board Monday approved a Certified Survey Map (CSM) for an electrical contractor who wants to relocate from the City of Middleton to former farmland here.

For the past few months, the town board has made changes to accommodate Kyle Walser’s request to join two unplatted lots at 4622 Rocky Dell Rd. and build a 10,000-square foot office/warehouse on one and a residence on the other.

Neighbors in the Rocky Dells Estates objected to having a business locate across the road from their subdivision. Despite those objections, the board amended the town’s Comprehensive Plan in May and rezoned 0.7 acres of the former Vosen Farm for Walser Electric’s office/warehouse.

MCPASD Alumni Network to Host a Community Town Hall Tonight

MIDDLETON–The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District (MCPASD) Network formally invites students, staff, parents and community members to attend a virtual community town hall addressing racial injustice in MCPASD schools on Aug. 3, at 7 p.m.

For weeks, community members have called for the school district to address systemic racism and racial disparities within all levels of education, through a petition with over 720 signatures. Not only has the district actively rejected such efforts, but they have utilized the virtual nature of their school board meetings to repeatedly stifle public comment and disenfranchise the voices of BlPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students, staff, and community members, the group contends. Stephen Kolison, an alumni from Middleton High School’s Class of 2013, is frustrated with the district’s approach.
