David Leon Olive, M.D.

MIDDLETON–David Leon Olive, M.D., passed away on May 22, 2020 at 12:10 am after a 14 year battle with cancer. He passed at his home in Middleton.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; their children Zachary, Matthew, Alexander, Taïna, Midlyne and Janelle; their significant others Lindsay, John, Jessica and Michael; his grandchildren Jackson and Machlan; his Brothers Gary and Robert, his Sister Lori, his Nieces and Nephews and Cousins, their significant others and those he invited into his “family”.

He graduated with honors from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1975, completed his Medical Degree at Baylor College of Medicine in 1979, his Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern School of Medicine in 1983 and his Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Duke University Medical School in 1985. He was granted an honorary master’s degree from Yale University in 1997.

Mary Lou Kuehn

MIDDLETON–Mary Lou Kuehn, age 78, passed away surrounded by her family on June 22, 2020, after a courageous battle with ALS. She was born on Sept. 22, 1941, in Middleton, the daughter of Gerald and Leona (Endres) Adler. She married Stanley Edward Kuehn on June 27, 1961, in Ashton. Mary Lou attended Middleton High School and after her graduation, she returned to MHS for her first job, working in the school office. Once married, Mary Lou partnered professionally with Stan, helping him launch the family business, Stan’s Floor Covering (known later as The Habitat, and then Kuehn’s Sampler Square) working as bookkeeper and office manager, juggling work and the parenting of the couple’s four young children. Mary Lou later held dual careers in bookkeeping at Quivey’s Grove restaurant and tax preparation at H & R Block in Madison.

Birney Jay "Butch" McCauley

MIDDLETON–Birney Jay "Butch" McCauley, age 69, passed away on June 22, 2020, after a 13-month battle with glioblastoma. He was born on May 4, 1951, in Dennison, OH, the son of Birney and Betty (Devore) McCauley. Butch graduated from Indian Valley North High School in 1969. He married Peggy Longseth on Aug. 12, 1989, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Middleton.

Butch was the proud founder of Butch's Foundations, a successful company that he started from the ground up. He loved golfing, camping, college sports, and attending live roots music concerts. Butch was an animal lover and enjoyed attending horse shows with his daughter. He had a knack for making everyone he met feel like a friend and his friends feel like family. Above all, his favorite thing was his immediate family and he loved spending time with them.

Eric. R. Walser

STOUGHTON–Eric R. Walser, age 52, passed away on June 16, 2020. He was born on Sept. 29, 1967, in Madison, the son of Richard and Ann Walser. He graduated from Middleton High School and went on to get a marketing degree from Madison College. Eric worked as an electrician for many years, although his true passion in life was in the great outdoors hunting and fishing. Eric felt most at home on his fishing boat or in a field with his hunting dogs. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and he will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help others. 

Eric is survived by his mother, Ann Walser; brothers, Kyle (Michelle) and Kent (Krista) Walser; his three nephews, Austin, Dillon and Collin; and two nieces, Brook and Madelyn. 

A private burial was held on June 19, 2020, at the Historic First Lutheran Church. A celebration of Eric’s life will be scheduled at a later date.

John J. Fury

MIDDLETON–John J. Fury, 71, of Middleton, died April 18, 2020, in Madison, following a stroke. He was separated from his loving family during his illness due to Covid-19 restrictions.

John grew up in Janesville, MN, the son of John and Ruth (Hendricksen) Fury. His sense of humor was the magnet that drew Mary Johnson to John, telling herself in eighth grade, that one day she would marry this guy. They married on Nov. 7, 1969, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, in Janesville, MN,  and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past November in the presence of their children, son-in-law and grandchildren. John’s sense of humor was on full display during this memorable evening.

Ronald Duane Hoppmann

MIDDLETON–Ronald Duane Hoppmann was named after the actor Ronald Coleman and his brother, Dean’s twin who died right before he was born. Ron was a gifted storyteller. Here is part of his story that made him into such a beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. He was a good guy and quite a character.

Mary Ann Vance

MIDDLETON–Mary Ann Vance, 73, of Middleton passed away peacefully Friday morning, May 29, 2020, at Agrace HospiceCare in Madison after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born Oct 5, 1946, in Viroqua, to Orin H. and Dorothy J. (Otto) Vance. Mary attended school at Brush Hollow in Avalanche before moving into Viroqua in 1960 where she then graduated from Viroqua High School in 1964.

Mary continued her education at Madison Area Technical College and in 1965 started working for the University of Wisconsin. After a variety of jobs in the different university schools and departments she found her work home in 1985 in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. She touched many lives managing the different aspects of the Farm and Industry Short Course program until her retirement in December of 2012.

WAUNAKEE–Rene M. Dupuis, age 77, passed away on May 23, 2020 at Agrace HospiceCare with his family at his side. He was born on June 25, 1942, in Wausau, the son of LaVern and Gertrude (Moss) Dupuis.

Lee Orvin Bollenbach

MORTON, IL–Lee Orvin Bollenbach, age 75, of Morton, IL, passed away on June 5, 2020, with his family at his side. Born on August 13, 1944 in Madison to Orvin E. and Vanita R. (Voss) Bollenbach, he married Kathleen Ann Zimmerman on April 30, 1966 in Middleton. She survives.

Also surviving are two children, Shaun (Melissa) Bollenbach of Morton, IL and Shelly (Bill) Joseph of Peoria, IL., five grandchildren, Connor, Katlin, Alyssa, Zachary and Sage, and two brothers, Gary (Robie) Bollenbach of Whitewater and Charles (Beverly) Bollenbach and sister-in-law, Joan Bollenbach, all of Middleton. 

He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul.

Virginia Butler-Haugen

MIDDLETON / BLACK EARTH–Virginia Butler-Haugen, age 93, passed away on May 21, 2020, at Ingleside Manor. She was born on Oct. 13, 1926, in Brothertown, the daughter of William and Alvina (Lefeber) Ecker.

Virginia attended Oshkosh State Teachers College. She married Robert Butler on Feb. 2, 1949 in Redwood City, CA. After his passing, she moved to Wisconsin where she met her second love, Norman Haugen. The two were married on May 25, 1974, in Durward's Glen. She was the editor for the Middleton Times-Tribune for many years.
