The City of Middleton has announced the candidate filings for the upcoming Spring Elections scheduled for April 1, 2025. The ballot will feature races for alderperson seats in four districts. Each alder position carries a two-year term.

Following a public hearing and acting on a recommendation from City Planner Mark Opitz, alders on Dec. 17 voted to refer changes in the city’s Official Map to the Middleton Plan Commission.

It’s almost as if the vote was timed to coincide with Thursday’s four-inch snowfall: The Middleton Nordic Center will operate a facility adjacent to the Middleton Bike Park, thanks to a Memorandum of Understanding given final approval Dec. 17 by the Middleton Common Council.

Kevin D. Welton, 64, who was found guilty in 2020 of sexually assaulting two young girls, has recently been released from jail. The incidents occurred eight years apart, both at the Harbor Athletic swimming pool. Welton was sentenced to four years in prison followed by four years of extended supervision. The sentence, imposed by Dane County Circuit Judge Susan Crawford, was less than half of what the prosecution and the victims’ families had requested.

The Middleton Common Council saluted two of its former city officials on Tuesday, Dec. 17, when it approved two proclamations for departing Police Chief Troy Hellenbrand and former mayor Doug Zwank, who died Nov. 28.

The Middleton Common Council on Dec. 3 voted unanimously to deny a $13,397 claim made against the city in connection with a falling tree striking her vehicle.
